Digital Living System FAQ Page!

What is DLS?

DLS stands for Digital Living System. It’s an RP-based HUD that enables you to “care” for yourself in Second Life, similar to the way you do in Real Life. It requires you to maintain certain stats such as Hygiene, Bladder, Energy, Fun, Social and Hunger. DLS was created to bring together a fun, active, and supportive community in Second Life!

Does DFS Food work with DLS Hud?

DFS food will not feed the DLS 2.0 Hud. If you would like to continue to use your DFS food to feed your DLS HUD you can continue to use the older version, as it is still compatible. For the development of DLS and it’s future, it was a hard but important choice.

DLS does have plans to develop its own food system in the future.

How does the DLS HUD work?

The DLS hud displays your stat levels. The little colorful rings around each symbol tells you the level of your stat, with every 10 points lost, a bar will disappear from the ring of that stat.
Here are the colors for each Stat:
Blue=Hygiene
Yellow=Hunger
Green=Social
Orange=Fun
Red=Energy
Purple=Bladder
The HUD also allows you to customize certain settings for your visual preference such as stat HUD text color, resizing, and allows you to access the DLS Mainstore, DLS website and DLS Flickr at just the click of a button!
Gear icon=Settings
Line=Minimize HUD (in development)

How do we maintain our stats?

The best way is to watch your stats from the DLS HUD and/or the DLS Stat HUD display which provides detailed information on the level of each stat.

To refill and maintain your stats, you can purchase DLS care items from the Mainstore or at special events. These items raise your stats via points. Each stat has a base reserve of 100 points that can be added to with Life Point Purchases.

How do I raise my stats using DLS items?

There are two ways to raise your stats.

You can choose whichever option works best for you, or use both!

Holdable DLS items – add the item to your avatar just like any other holdable item, and click to use it. It will use only the amount of points to refill the amount of your specific stat needed that your item is based on. (e.g. a bar of soap will fill the hygiene stat only)

Rezzable DLS items – rezz out the item and ensure it is in the same group as the tag that you have on, you will receive the amount of your specific stat needed that your item is based on. (e.g. wipes will fill the bladder stat only)

Once your points run out on your item, you can purchase the refills from the item itself (how convenient is that?) or purchase a new look of that type of item with full points.

Your options are endless!

Also, a good note is that you can also bring up your social stat by being around other DLS Hud users – teamwork makes the dreamwork! Hang out with friends, meet new ones and be social – that’s what SL is all about!

What happens if my stats get too low?

Just like in Real life, if you don’t take care of yourself, you will get sick.

By the way, we couldn’t leave the fun part out of being sick – could we? Yep! You guessed it, if you’re sick, it can be contagious! Don’t worry, you don’t have to get sick if you don’t want to, though we think it is super fun. You can turn it off in your settings portion of your HUD.

I am sick! How can I get better?

When you’re sick, you have two options to heal yourself.

You can purchase some medicine from the DLS mainstore or if you prefer the natural way…wait it out. Depending on how sick you are, you could end up waiting 72 hours! It just depends on what bug you caught! You can find out how sick you really are by checking out your stat hud. 24 hours is a minor sniffles. 48 hours is a bit worse, let’s think head cold and some serious sneezing. 72 hours…we call that the FLU! Sickness is in development, so we will be adding things as we go!

What do the HP and LP on the HUD mean? How can I use them?

LP = Life Points – these can be achieved by keeping all of your stats over 75% for an active period of 12 hours (with the DLS HUD on, of course) It does not have to be consecutive hours and if you fall under 75% at the 11th hour, you just have to wait another hour. We want to encourage you to get right back on track!

HP = Health Points – these can be gained by using our DLS HP Items (once every 12 hours)- just like in Real life, you must be active in order to be healthy. Now, of course, this is optional, but recommended!

A timer for both of these will also be displayed on your DLS Stat Hud so that you can have an idea of when you’re able to gain the next point – no need to do the timing work yourself – we got this!

Once you gain a certain amount, you will be able to turn those points in for specialty items at the DLS Mainstore. You’ll have access to some exciting benefits that will make all your hard work pay-off! HP gains you specialty items and LP offers you a chance to increase your stat reservoir!

What is the social game I see in local?

It’s a new feature created so we can have a little fun while socializing in Second Life.
When around other DLS Hud users, you will be able to rate each other using stars once the option pops up in local. There’s more to come with this feature – so stay tuned!
